I’ll be honest — I live by the phrase, “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.” So, when a legacy beauty brand announces it has reformulated one of its most beloved products, there’s always a tiny flicker of fear.

Over the years, I’ve experienced a few reformulations that didn’t quite hit the same — whether the texture changed, the potency felt watered down, or my skin simply didn’t respond the way it used to. That’s why I was cautiously optimistic when I learned that OLAY had evolved its iconic Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream, marking the first major upgrade to the formula in more than 20 years.

Ahead, learn about the upgraded moisturizer that works beneath the skin’s surface, and why I’m giving the Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream my seal of approval.

A Firsthand Look At The Science

Before the brand’s big announcement, Tweety and I were invited to attend the pre-launch event in NYC. We were instantly impressed by the level of intention OLAY put into everything— from the custom drinks and the swanky red lounge to the fun activations that gave guests a firsthand look at the benefits of the new product.

One activation demonstrated how the reformulated cream penetrates deeper into the skin. A separate VR experience visually walked us through the repair process, showing how the formula supports hydration and collagen at a structural level. It wasn’t just flashy tech for the sake of it. The demonstrations reinforced what the brand emphasized throughout the event: innovation rooted in measurable results.

Backed by over 70 years of skin science and decades of peptide research, the new formula is powered by OLAY’s Triple Collagen Peptide, designed to support the skin’s natural collagen for visibly firmer, smoother-looking skin. It also includes Pro-Vitamin B5 for deep hydration, Niacinamide to help brighten and strengthen the skin barrier, and additional clinically proven actives aimed at improving elasticity.

During a panel hosted by Blake Newby, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar joined dermatologist Dr. Jenny Liu, Stephanie Headley (SVP of North American Skincare at P&G), and Dr. Rolanda Wilkerson to discuss the science and legacy behind the upgrade. We were impressed to learn that the formulations were tested across a full spectrum of skin tones, including melanin-rich skin, as a standard practice. That commitment to inclusive testing is something I always appreciate hearing directly from the source.

Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Take

Later at the event, we snapped a few photos with the lovely Sarah Michelle Gellar, the official ambassador for the upgraded cream.

“Working with OLAY feels like reconnecting with a part of my story,” the actress shared in a press release about her longtime connection with OLAY. She noted that her mom used the legacy brand every day, which inspired her to turn to it for her beauty needs. “I have used it for years, so my trust in the brand is deeply ingrained. The new Micro-Sculpting Cream is a beautiful reminder of why OLAY has been a constant in my life: they never stop striving for better.”

So… Is It Actually Better?

I’ve used the original formulation previously, and after incorporating the upgraded version into my routine for about a month now, I can honestly say I’m impressed. I’m someone who prioritizes glow, and shortly after switching, I was told I looked noticeably more radiant — which is always a good sign.

According to brand research, skin appears deeply hydrated after one day, firmer and brighter after one week, and visibly lifted with reduced deep wrinkles after 28 days. Since using it, I’ve already noticed my skin looking brighter, bouncier, and more supple.

Sometimes you really shouldn’t fix what isn’t broken. But every once in a while, a thoughtful evolution proves that improvement is possible, especially when it’s backed by science.
