I’m an overachieving mom of two with a successful career in publicity, but lately I’ve been feeling unmotivated. In recent weeks, things have been hectic due to a large team project we are working on. I try to push through, but some days I feel exhausted. I’ve heard of burnout, but I am not sure if that’s what I’m experiencing or if I’m just losing interest in what I used to consider my dream job.

Thank you for writing in. Unfortunately, stress caused by burnout is currently on the rise due to overwhelming expectations from family, work, and business/career. The good thing is that healing from “burnout” starts with recognizing the signs.
Signs Of Burnout
Burnout creeps up on you subtly. It doesn’t hit all at once. Here are a few warning signs to look out for:
- ✨ You are always exhausted, regardless of how much you sleep.
- ✨ You experience mood swings or irritability.
- ✨ You’re snapping at others over minor issues.
- ✨ You have no drive, and even things you once liked now seem like drudgery.
- ✨ You experience stress or anxiety.
Physical symptoms include headaches, muscular tightness, or recurrent infections.
If you experience any of these signs, it’s time to PAUSE and take your mental and physical health seriously.
Breaking Free: Ways To Get Your Energy Back
Burnout indicates you’ve been strong for too long; it doesn’t indicate weakness. True strength is knowing when you need a break and acting to recover.
Burnout is not permanent; however, conquering it calls for deliberate effort. Now it’s time to make a change and choose YOU.
Below are my expert tips for getting your energy back after experiencing burnout.
1. Rest And Recovery Come First
Rest is a need, not a luxury. Fighting burnout requires non-negotiable sleep, relaxation, and breaks. Resting is not something you should feel guilty about. Remember, you cannot give from an empty cup.
2. Establish Limits & Master “No”
Establishing limits at work, at home, and even in relationships will help you to safeguard your time and energy. “No” is a self-care decision, not a selfish one.
3. Reconnect With Your Passions And Seek Happiness
Often, burnout robs people of joy. Whether it’s dancing, painting, traveling, or just laughing with friends, make time to rediscover hobbies, passions, and activities that excite you.
4. Feed Your Mind & Move Your Body
Fighting burnout can be greatly aided by exercise, a good diet, and mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing or meditation. A quick stroll outside may even reset your thinking and improve your attitude.
5. Ask For Help
Burnout flourishes in seclusion. Speak with a friend, therapist, or mentor who can offer perspective and encouragement. You are not required to go through this alone.
