The 3rd Annual Caribbean Food Expo, presented by Island Vybe Philly Caribbean Station, transformed the city into a lively celebration of island culture on Sunday, August 10th. While it was a very hot and sunny day, it didn’t stop attendees from soaking in the booming atmosphere (thanks to the talented Selectors) of Caribbean music, food, and community spirit.
From the very beginning, the event’s founder and host, Ian George, set the tone with his warm hospitality. He greeted attendees, making everyone feel welcomed, a reflection of the true Caribbean spirit.

A Feast For The Senses
The aroma of Caribbean spices filled the air, promising a flavorful experience. While the team at BrownStyle had planned to host a food tasting to spotlight the best dishes of the day, the experience didn’t take place due to unknown reasons. Nevertheless, the hope is alive to return next year with a full round-up, offering readers and attendees an inside look at the standout bites.
Although the number of vendors was fewer than expected, the ones present made a meaningful impact. Beyond the plates of island treats, vendors showcased Caribbean-inspired art, flags on fans, and other goods that proudly represented both Caribbean and Black American culture.
Music So Sweet
The highlight of the day came when Trinidadian-American Soca artist Anika Berry, the event’s top biller, took the stage. Not only did she captivate the audience with her unforgettable performance, but she also went out of her way to connect personally with fans. Both on stage and off, Berry’s charisma, approachable nature, and undeniable talent made her a star!

Honest Reflections
As much as there was to love, the expo wasn’t without its challenges. The event could have benefited from stronger promotion, especially since it was free! And more vendors would have been great for versatility and discovery. Still, what it lacked in size, it made up for in spirit. The people were kind, and the vibe was unmistakably Caribbean!
Looking Ahead
While the Caribbean Food Expo 2025 left room for growth, it successfully laid the groundwork for future celebrations. With Ian George’s vision, talented artists like Anika Berry, and the unwavering spirit of the community, the fun has only just begun. Next year promises even more flavor, more music, and more island vibes for Philadelphia.
