Your home is much more than a place to eat and sleep. Ideally, it should also be a space where you feel safe and completely at peace. When you walk through the threshold of your home, you should instantly feel your shoulders drop as you nestle into the warm embrace of your personal space. As you sashay from room to room, you should be welcomed with furniture that invites you to take a moment to unwind and relax. At each turn of the corner, your eyes should light up with joy as you gaze at pops of your favorite hues. Your spirits should be lifted whenever you sit and admire the decor you carefully selected to celebrate your personality and culture.

Some say your home is a reflection of your inner thoughts. This may explain why so many people invest both time and money into creating the “perfect” space that speaks to their minds, bodies, and souls.

Weave Memories Into Your Decor

Erica Dike highly suggests weaving heartwarming memories into your home decor as a way to not only celebrate your personal milestones but also highlight cherished moments in your life that you’ll never forget.

“Weaving memories into your decor adds a sprinkle of your life’s story into your home,” the interior designer shares, pointing out how hanging up beautifully framed photos and displaying souvenirs from your travels can be a simple way to customize your space.

From tropical wonders that brighten up your room to succulents that care, Zara O’Hare reminds us that bringing nature indoors adds a touch of elegance to your home and a breath of fresh air—literally!

“Plants have been proven to improve psychological and physical well-being,” O’Hare says about the wonderful benefits of being a plant parent. “The natural beauty of plants helps to improve your mood because they evoke positive emotions like optimism and comfort, which helps to reduce stress.”

To brighten up your space, the interior design consultant suggests cultivating your green oasis with indoor plants that resonate with your style and personality.

Curate Your Comfort Zone With Cozy Must-Haves

Whether it’s a plush sofa that invites you to sink in with a good book, a cozy throw that embraces you while you binge-watch your favorite show or a meditation nook that soothes your soul — everyone wants a cozy space that helps them relax and unwind after a long and busy day.

According to Dike, curating your comfort zone is about finding pieces that speak to how you want your space to feel. “Select pieces that evoke a feeling of comfort— whatever that looks like to you. These pieces should prioritize comfort and make you happy,” she notes.

When searching for furniture and decor to put into your comfort zone, Dike suggests searching for soothing colors and soft textures that speak to your vibe. Don’t forget to add scented candles like jasmine and vanilla or essential oil diffusers for an extra touch of warmth and relaxation.

Surround Yourself With Rhythms And Melodies

Music is a universal language of love and joy, which can elevate the ambiance of your happy space to a whole new level.

“I was never a big home electronics person, but I’ve found that speakers are impactful,” Dike shares about why she thinks everyone should invest in top-notch speakers to enhance their playlists and fill their space with soulful tunes, rhythmic beats, and soothing melodies of their choice.

“Imagine good vibes filling every nook while you work, relax, or dance it out,” she adds. “I’m Nigerian so afrobeats are a staple in my household. That style of music is built on good vibes.”

Lighting Is Everything In Home Decor

Lighting can make or break the atmosphere of a room. This is why O’Hare advises us all to find a way to incorporate natural light as much as possible into our homes.

“Light-colored and sheer curtains are a great way to maximize the amount of natural sunlight you have in your home,” she explains. “You should also try placing a mirror opposite the window or door where the light shines through to brighten up your space.”

As the sun sets, the expert suggests opting for warm, soft lighting that envelops your space in a cozy glow.

Declutter And Simplify Your Space

A cluttered space can lead to a cluttered mind. To create an environment that fosters clarity and peace, it’s important to declutter and simplify our surroundings each season.

Having a hard time clearing up your space? Dike suggests starting with this simple rule: “If it’s not useful and doesn’t spark joy, it’s out.”

For items that no longer serve you, donate or repurpose them. For things you want to keep, Dike suggests getting organized with smart and practical storage solutions like baskets, shelves, and multi-functional furniture.
