If country music festivals are on your 2025 mood board, then you’ll want to attend this year’s Rooted in Rhythm! From mariachi music to soul-stirring gospel and foot-stompin’ R&B, this one-of-a-kind celebration is rewriting what it means to be “country,” and we are so here for it.

Founded by best friend creatives Valese and Bridgette Jones of the Millennial Maven Creative Foundation, Rooted in Rhythm is the soulful Southern soirée that’s been five years in the making. So, why now? According to the creators, it was all about divine timing.

“The inspiration for Rooted in Rhythm came from our desire to celebrate the arts, foster community, and uplift talent that has never gotten the opportunity to be at the forefront of the genre,” Valese tells BrownStyle Magazine exclusively. “We came up with the idea five years ago, but nobody would fund it until the success of Cowboy Carter.”

Yep, Queen Bey cracked the door open—and Rooted in Rhythm lined danced their way in and was welcomed with open arms by the town of McKinney, Texas.

“The McKinney community has been so welcoming—from Mayor Fuller and his wife to Councilwoman Gere’ Feltus,” says Valese. “Hosting the event at Tupps Brewery, which is family-owned, just gives it a certain feel!”

What To Expect At This Year’s ‘Rooted In Rhythm

Taking over Tupps Brewery in McKinney, Texas— on the new date of October 18th, this genre-bending event is bringing heat with a lineup that fuses mariachi, soul, gospel, R&B, and country.

“We intentionally sought out artists who bring unique perspectives and sounds to the table,” Valese explains. “We aim to satisfy traditional country fans but also pique the interest of new ones and show the versatility of country music.”

Expect a lineup as diverse as your favorite playlist. Some performers include Stephanie Urbina Jones & The Honky Tonk Mariachi, The Kentucky Gentlemen, Valerie Ponzio, DJ Rick Dominguez, Elsie, Pynk Beard, Adrian Garza, and Kayenne The Creole Cowboy.

“Each artist brings their unique flavor,” Valese says. “From gospel roots to Southern soul, we’re highlighting that country music can be both innovative and rooted in tradition.”

The Vibes

DJ J Lex will kick things off while Tighten Up with Tiff will bring the line dancing heat! Add in activations from Red Bull, a Kidz Zone hosted by the YMCA, and booths from some of the region’s dopest vendors, and you’ve got a full-on vibe fest for all ages.

“Guests can expect an electric atmosphere filled with excitement and warmth,” Valese promises, noting the event is also a purpose-driven platform.

Proceeds from Rooted in Rhythm will support mentorships, summer camps, workshops, and resources for women and youth breaking into creative industries.

“We’re using a portion of these proceeds to help replace instruments and creative supplies that were lost in the L.A. wildfires,” Valese shares. “We believe in creating a supportive environment where creativity can flourish.”

According to Valese, there are countless things to look forward to at this year’s event. However, she’s truly excited to see the unity that comes from line dancing!

Boots on the Ground it is the song of the summer,” she shares with a chuckle. “We hope the crowd comes together in a shared celebration of music and culture. That collective energy where everyone feels a part of something bigger.”
