The professional dancer and longtime dance captain for Beyoncé shares her secrets to staying well.
Wellness is a deeply personal journey, shaped by individual interpretations. Creative Director Emerald Elitou created the series ‘Ways To Wellness’ as a way to highlight professional women who use self-care practices to nurture their mind, body, and soul. Hopefully, this candid conversation with Ashley Everett inspires you to create your own self-care and wellness rituals.
Ashley Everett always moves with intention— even when it comes to her wellness routine.
As a professional dancer and longtime dance captain for Beyoncé, Everett has defined her successful career by precision, discipline, and an unforgettable stage presence (the Beautiful Liar dance break is still living rent-free in our heads).
To keep up with iconic choreography and high-performance moments, the dancer and model stays balanced with a wellness philosophy that’s evolved alongside her demanding schedule and ever-expanding creative identity. “Wellness is overall well-being. Self-well-being and prioritizing what is good for you look different for everybody,” Everett shares with THE SEQUENCE.
In a life that often runs at full tempo, Everett’s version of wellness isn’t about slowing down entirely—it’s about finding rhythm no matter the moment. That evolution shows up in choices like morning workouts that sharpen her focus, commitment to nourishing her body, and the purposeful pauses that allow her to reset.
Ahead, discover how the choreographer, lifestyle influencer, and wellness enthusiast is embracing a soft life complete with AM/PM routines, spa days, and intentional resets.
Everett says starting her day with a workout is key to starting her day on the right foot. “There are many benefits to my morning workout, plus some physical perks. I feel like it’s a stress reliever, and it gets me in the right mindset,” the fitness enthusiast explains, noting working out in the morning leads to better choices throughout the day. “It puts me in a focused and clear-headed space so I can achieve what I have set out for that day, and it puts me in a better mood.”
While her mornings energize her, her evenings are reserved for reflection. “If I have a busy day being around a bunch of people and absorbing a lot of other energies, I need that moment for myself,” she says. “I think moments alone are so important.”
According to Everett, over time, she’s learned to value rest and reflection as a necessary part of her routine. The choreographer especially enjoys taking vacations to reset and rejuvenate.
“You know, I will splurge on a vacation! It’s part of prioritizing myself and my dreams,” she explains. “Sometimes a vacation helps the mental roadblocks and gives you the spark again. I love a reset and a revisit—taking a moment away and then revisiting it.”
Everett also prioritizes physical recovery with spa days. “I will also splurge on a spa day because I work out a lot. My body gets sore. I’m a dancer—I need it, my muscles need it, my body needs it. I will splurge on anything wellness that goes back into making me better,” she insists.
For Everett, consistent wellness routines help her stay accountable and prioritize her well-being. In turn, it gives her the ability to live a more grounded, soft life with intention. “When I start getting stressed or feeling overwhelmed due to a hectic schedule, I lean into my wellness to balance me out. With that comes less pressure to feel the need to chase so many other things,” she shares. “And now I just feel like I attract more, and I can be in my soft life, soft girl era.”
For many, the path to wellness isn’t linear, and Everett is the first to acknowledge that. For her, it’s less about perfection and more about consistency.
“I feel like it’s about getting back on the horse and back on track. Consistency is always my goal— whether it’s once a week, two times a week, or five times a week,” she reveals, encouraging readers to celebrate every time you show up for yourself. “It’s going to fluctuate depending on life, work, and schedules, but consistency is the goal, and I feel like if you have some form of that, you are on the right track.”
And to those who need some sisterly advice to stay motivated in their “blooming” season, Everett’s advice is simple and direct: “Ain’t nothin’ to it but to do it! Just jump right in, friend. Try new things, and remember, there are no secrets, just work. Do the work, and you’ll see and feel the payoff! You won’t regret it, I promise.”
