Jasmine Sargent Talks G.R.I.T.S. And Why ‘Me Mondays’ Are A Self-Care Must

Visibility can be a gift, but it can also be noisy. The actress is already learning how to move through it with intention.

When an actress breaks out on screen, people often assume it happened overnight. But anyone watching Jasmine Sargent on ALLBLK Network’s G.R.I.T.S. (Girls Raised in the South) knows better. Her presence is grounded. Her delivery is intentional. And her glow feels earned.

I recently sat down with the actress to talk about her new role as Keisha, the whirlwind of attention following the show’s release, and how she’s protecting her peace while leveling up in real time. Read our interview below.

Getting To Know Jasmine Sargent (A Little Auntie Moment… Because I Can’t Help Myself!)

Let me be honest, I watched G.R.I.T.S. before I interviewed Jasmine, and somewhere between episode one and three, I turned into the auntie on the couch talking to the TV.

G.R.I.T.S. is about three Memphis women who find refuge in roller skating while facing life’s challenges. Keisha is a diamond in the rough with so much potential, and in my opinion, Jasmine plays her with a depth that makes you root for her every step. Her acting skills made us proud of the character for pushing through the weight she carried. That girl had grit.

And by the end of her performance as Keisha, I literally wanted to give my TV niece a hug. Then I actually got the chance to chat with Jasmine herself…and that auntie energy turned into, “Oh, baby, you’re going far.”

Jasmine Sargent herself? She’s warm, she’s real, she’s the prettiest cool-girl-with-a-purpose you’ve ever met. She’s the kind of woman who walks in determined to pass every expectation placed on her— and then surpasses it. The Virginia native doesn’t play when she shows up for work, and it shows.

What struck me most was the brightness in her energy and her self-awareness. I genuinely wondered how she maintained that level of light while portraying a character carrying so much darkness. (Keisha has grit.)

After watching her grow through every episode, and then meeting the woman who prioritizes her inner glow with the same devotion as her craft, one thing is evident: Jasmine Sargent is a star.

Protecting Her Peace With A Spotlight On The Rise

Visibility can be a gift, but it can also be noisy. Jasmine is already learning how to move through it with intention.

“Stepping into the spotlight with G.R.I.T.S. has been exciting,” she reveals, “but it’s also taught me the importance of protecting my peace. I’ve become very intentional about my boundaries, who I keep around me, what I say yes to, and what I allow to influence my energy.”

That groundedness is rare for someone whose star is just beginning to rise.

“When it comes to my career, I’m always focusing on my growth, challenging myself creatively, and staying open to roles that push me forward,” she adds. “Personally, I’m giving myself space to evolve and outgrow old patterns so that I can step confidently into the next chapter of my life.”

That’s soft life…but with a backbone.

Her Self-Care Must-Have

Her smile is as big in person as it is on screen, and her skin really is shea butter smooth in real life! To stay stress-free and maintain her natural glow, she turns to self-care and setting boundaries.

The actress is not afraid to step back, unplug, pray, journal, and check her own temperature so she doesn’t lose herself in the momentum.

Her self-care must-have? “Me Mondays.”

She explains, “Every Monday— when I can— I take myself to the drive-in movie theater, put my phone on Do Not Disturb, and enjoy whatever movie feels right that night. It’s my little date night with myself. No pressure, no expectations, just space to breathe, unwind, and enjoy my own company.”

It’s simple. It’s sacred. It’s soft. And playing Keisha wasn’t light work. “Keisha took me to some heavy emotional places,” Jasmine admits. “So putting myself first wasn’t optional; it was necessary.”

Her Mindset To Stay Grounded As An Actress

Long filming days, intense scenes, and emotional weight can take a toll on actresses. To stay grounded, she puts herself first every time.

“I’d remind myself that I’m a person before I’m a performer,” she tells us. “That mindset allowed me to rest when I needed to, stay gentle with myself, and release any heaviness once the cameras stopped.”

She doesn’t see softness as fragility. She truly sees it as fuel. “I show up more fully when I’m prioritizing my peace,” she shares. “That soft life mindset actually makes me stronger on set.”

G.R.I.T.S. may have introduced the world to Jasmine, but Jasmine is clearly introducing the world to herself in divine timing and stunning self-awareness. And if this is just the beginning? Niece, the industry might not be ready. But Auntie sure is!
