The Momference 2026: Meet The Founders Who Are Creating A Safe Space For Moms To ‘Unfold’

For years, motherhood conversations have centered around sacrifice, survival, and doing it all. But what happens when mothers are permitted to rest, evolve, heal, and become? That question sits at the heart of The Momference 2026, a signature gathering created by District Motherhued, which returns this weekend (May 15–17) to Eaton DC with a theme that feels both timely and deeply personal: Unfold.

Now celebrating nine years of The Momference and a decade of impact through District Motherhued, founders Nikki Osei-Barrett and Simona Noce Wright are inviting mothers into something bigger than another conference weekend. They’re creating space for women to reconnect with themselves.

According to the founders, unfolding isn’t always loud. For Osei-Barrett, this season of life has looked less like a dramatic transformation and more like intentional softness.

“In this season, unfolding looks like choosing softness, alignment, rest, joy, and purpose while still carrying responsibility,” she tells BrownStyle Magazine. “I’m learning that growth doesn’t always happen loudly. Sometimes it happens quietly through healing, trusting God more deeply, and embracing the woman you’re becoming in real time.”

Wright also cosigns. “Unfolding, for me, is giving myself permission to evolve without having all the answers,” she shares. “As mothers and leaders, we spend so much time pouring into everyone else that we sometimes forget we’re still becoming too.”

The Vibe Of The Momference

And perhaps that’s why Unfold feels less like a conference theme and more like an invitation for mothers to stop performing long enough to ask themselves: Who am I becoming?

That question will linger throughout the three-day experience, which blends wellness, sisterhood, culture, and intentional care. Yet the founders say what attendees remember most often isn’t necessarily a keynote or panel, it’s the feeling.

Wright describes The Momference feeling as a big family reunion you don’t want to miss. “It feels like a HBCU homecoming, and the Essence Festival all wrapped into one—but designed specifically with moms at the center,” she says. “Women leave feeling seen, celebrated, poured into, and reminded they don’t have to carry life alone.”

Osei-Barrett agrees, describing the environment as equal parts healing and joyful.

“The Momference is affirming, beautiful, intentional, and honest,” she explains. “There’s laughter, vulnerability, inspiration, wellness, and sisterhood existing in the same space. We’re mothers, but we’re also women experiencing motherhood together.”

Unfold: The Theme Of Momference 2026

BrownStyle Magazine is a proud media sponsor of The Momference 2026. This year’s keynote speaker Sheinelle Jones embodies that journey. Known for her warmth and relatability, Jones will headline conversations around motherhood, identity, and evolution.

For Wright, the choice felt natural. “Sheinelle embodies the heart of Unfold,” she says. “What makes her especially powerful for this moment is that she’s continued showing up publicly while navigating grief, personal challenges, and life in real time. There’s something deeply inspiring about watching a woman unfold in front of the world with honesty and grace.”

Osei-Barrett says the goal wasn’t simply to feature someone successful, but someone becoming. “We wanted a keynote speaker who could speak not just to success, but to evolution,” she explains. “Her story reminds women it’s okay to pivot, heal, and rediscover yourself in every season.”

The Momference 2026: What To Expect At This Year’s Event

This year’s return to Eaton DC carries emotional significance as well. The venue was home to The Momference’s staycation-style model introduced during 2021—a season that required reinvention for many organizations and mothers alike.

“Coming back feels symbolic,” Wright reflects. “So much has evolved since then—our community, our vision, even us as founders. Returning feels like honoring where the pivot started while embracing everything we’re unfolding into now.”

And perhaps nowhere is The Momference’s commitment to women more visible than in its continued offering of radiation-free breast screenings.

For the second year, screenings powered by Bexa and community partners will provide attendees with accessible health support, which is something Osei-Barrett says is deeply intentional.

“For some women, this may be the only opportunity they have this year to receive a screening,” she says. “We wanted to move beyond inspiration and into impact.”

The Impact Of The Momference

Beyond conversations, The Momference intentionally centers care in practical ways.

That means attendees can expect wellness experiences designed to move beyond inspirational messaging and into restoration—from midnight workouts and Sunday wellness sessions to Gospel Strolls, line dancing, and so much more.

“We wanted moms to receive real, intentional wellness experiences—not simply attend another event,” Osei-Barrett explains. “We want mothers moving their bodies, releasing stress, and reconnecting with themselves in ways that feel freeing.”

Both ladies want every woman to know that care shouldn’t be treated like a luxury.

“Mothers deserve care, too,” Wright says simply. “The Momference was never meant to be just another conference. It’s a care-centered experience designed to remind women they are worthy of rest, beauty, friendship, and investment.”

That philosophy extends to beloved experiences, including the Pamper Suite, where attendees may receive services such as hair touch-ups, nails, lashes, and wellness offerings, as well as the Mommy Market, highlighting more than 30 Black-owned and mom-owned businesses.

“Our goal has always been creating opportunities for women not only to connect, but to support and invest back into one another,” Osei-Barrett explains.

Still, the founders insist the most transformative moments often happen unexpectedly.

“Sometimes the magic is in hallway conversations, over lunch, after a panel ends, or during a wellness session,” Osei Barrett shares. “At The Momference, every moment has the potential to become meaningful.”

And for the mother quietly debating whether she deserves a weekend devoted to herself, Osei Barrett offers one final reminder: “You deserve community. You deserve rest. You deserve joy. You deserve to be cared for, too,” she says. “Sometimes one weekend, one conversation, or one connection can shift everything.”
